We’re here to help. Please contact Sara Potts, Development Officer for Stewardship, at 215.340.9800 ext. 161 or spotts@michenerartmuseum.org.

Commemorative Gifts

A Tribute or Memorial gift to the Michener Art Museum is a thoughtful way to honor family or friends, celebrate a special occasion, or express sympathy on the loss of a loved one. When you make a commemorative gift, a personalized acknowledgement is sent to the individual or family to be honored. The size of the gift is not mentioned but the family receives your name and address for their personal acknowledgement.

Commemorative gifts will support the Annual Fund unless otherwise designated by the family. If you would like more information or assistance, please contact Sara Potts at 215.340.9800 ext. 161 or spotts@michenerartmuseum.org.

Gifts from Your Donor Advised Fund

Donor Advised Funds (DAF) offer an easy and flexible way to make a gift. DAFs can easily be set up through a community foundation or your financial institution and provide immediate tax benefits. We welcome gifts made from DAFs for designations that are 100% tax-deductible, such as the Annual Fund and program support.

Please note that the IRS prohibits charities from providing any goods, services, or benefits in exchange for a contribution from your DAF. That’s because you received a tax deduction for the full amount when you funded your DAF account. Accordingly, DAF funds cannot be used to pay for memberships, tickets for benefit events, or full benefit event sponsorships.

Please consult your tax advisor for specific questions or see the IRS documentation. Although we cannot provide legal or tax guidance, we are here to help. Contact Candace Clarke, Director of Development, at 215.340.9800 ext. 148 or cclarke1@michenerartmuseum.org.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities

Donating stocks, bonds, or mutual funds is a smart and simple way to support the Michener. Such gifts are easy to make and may provide a greater tax benefit than an equivalent gift in cash.

The easiest way to donate appreciated securities is to have them electronically delivered by your broker via DTC to our gift account with Vanguard. You or your broker should contact Candace Clarke, Director of Development, at 215.340.9800 ext. 148 or email cclarke1@michenerartmuseum.org  to request a Gift Securities Notification Form. You will be asked to provide your name, telephone number, the name of the stock, number of shares, the approximate date you will make the gift, approximate value of the gift, and the designation for your gift (General, Membership, Operations, Exhibition Support, etc.), as well as your broker’s name and telephone number.

IRA Charitable Rollover Gifts

If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a tax-free distribution from your traditional or Roth IRA directly to the Michener Art Museum. It’s a simple and efficient way to support the causes that matter to you most. You can donate up to $100,000 each year without incurring income tax on your withdrawal.

Here’s the process:

1- You direct a distribution in the amount of your choosing from your traditional or Roth IRA to the James A. Michener Art Museum. This can be a one-time or recurring gift.

2- The distributions go directly to the Museum, and you are not subject to federal income tax.

3- The Museum will notify you when we receive your contribution.

This information is meant to serve only as a general guideline, not as legal advice, or opinion. Please consult your legal or financial advisor for specific questions.

Please contact Candace Clarke, Director of Development, at 215.340.9800 ext. 148 or cclarke1@michenerartmuseum.org, to request an IRA Charitable Rollover Gift Form or to discuss your gift to the Museum.

Gifts of Art and Other Tangible Property

As a collecting institution, the Michener Art Museum is grateful to all the donors who have entrusted it to be the final caretakers of their personal collections. Without the generosity of donors such as Marguerite and Gerry Lenfest, the Nakashima Foundation, and countless others, the Museum’s collection would not be what it is today.

There are many ways in which you may choose to make a gift to the collection: an outright donation, an irrevocable promised gift, a bequest in your will, or a fractional interest gift. Please consult your legal or tax advisor for specific questions.

All gifts of artwork are subject to review by the Museum’s curatorial staff and subject to approval by the Michener’s Collections Committee. If you are interested in donating artwork to the collection, please contact Emma Falcon, Registrar at 215.340.9800 Ext 146.

Occasionally, the Museum will accept in-kind donations of items other than artwork, including real estate holdings, professional services, art supplies and equipment, and items for use at a variety of Museum events. If you are interested in making a donation of tangible property other than artwork, please contact Candace Clarke, Director of Development, at 215.340.9800 ext. 148 or cclarke1@michenerartmuseum.org.
