Explore the Museum’s renowned collection of paintings, sculptures, works on paper and studio craft pieces, including work by painters of the Pennsylvania Impressionist or New Hope school, the Philadelphia Ten, and other diverse artists connected to the heart of Bucks County.
Guided and self-guided (recommend for upper school ages only) visits are available for PreK-12th grade students Wednesday through Friday from 10:30am to 3:30pm. School tours generally run from 45-60 minutes in length. All school tours are interactive and inquiry-based, specially designed to promote curiosity, close-looking and critical thinking. Specialized School Tours
Looking for a deeper dive into the Michener’s permanent collection and special exhibitions? Ask about our specialized school tour offerings. These thematic tours are guided by national and state standards-based essential questions that help connect art to classroom curricula. Please note that the recommended grade levels are broad; tours can be further tailored to address specific learning objectives and needs.
Intro to Art
Students are introduced to the museum as a welcoming place for celebrating creativity. Using tactile objects and other interactives, visitors explore the many different forms that art can take, including drawings, paintings, and sculptures. Students will also learn about some of the basic elements of art, including color, line and shape. Recommended for PreK – Grade 3.
Celebrating the Artists of Pennsylvania
The Delaware Valley region has long been home to creative makers and storytellers who have their own unique perspectives. This tour features examples of artists who were – or currently are – based in Pennsylvania. Students will encounter a variety of works that reflect aspects of life in the Delaware Valley via their history, medium and/or subject matter. Recommended for Grades 4-6.
Gallery Voices
Good writers are good observers, and looking carefully at art encourages students to further develop their observation skills. With an author as its eponym, the Michener Art Museum is excited to offer students a specialized experience that centers writing as a key component of a museum visit. Experienced museum guides lead students through the creative process of slowing down, looking closely, and reflecting on the diverse works they encounter. Written responses may include ekphrastic poems, stories, nonfiction and collaborative writing. Recommended for Grades 4 and up.
