Planned Giving

A Legacy of Giving

Legacy gifts are an essential part of the history of the Michener Art Museum—planned gifts from James A. Michener and his late wife Mari Sabusawa Michener cemented our existence as an institution. Today, planned gifts in support of the Michener Art Museum remain an exceptional way to realize the long-term goals that remain important to you—benefitting yourself, your family, and this institution that you love and believe in.

In honor of their exemplary commitment, individuals who choose to support the Michener with a bequest or other planned gift are recognized as part of the Mari Sabusawa Michener Bequest Society. Gifts of these types ensure the Museum remains a home for the region’s rich artistic soul for generations to come.

Depending on your estate planning needs, there are many ways in which to tailor and structure your legacy gift, all of which allow you to show your support of the Museum, and save taxes on your estate at the same time. You can:

– Designate a bequest in your Will or Trust Agreement, or add a bequest to your existing document by a codicil or amendment.

– Name the Museum as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401K, 403b or other retirement plan, and also eliminate the income taxes on those assets.

– Name the Museum as a beneficiary of an insurance policy on your life.

– Donate a gift of art, either during your lifetime or after, either in trust or through a direct bequest.

– Create a Charitable Remainder Trust, reserving an annual lifetime amount for your (and your spouse) and passing the remaining assets to the Museum.
